3 Benefits of Cloud Computing for Today's Mobile Work Environment

Posted by Justin Bigger on November 16, 2015

Work is no longer a place we go – it’s a thing we do. We can do work…

  • …on the road.
  • …at home.
  • …in the office.
  • …on vacation.
  • …on the airplane.
  • …in the waiting room.
  • …ANYWHERE.

The flexible and mobile nature of work today offers unique advantages and disadvantages to both employers and employees. Some roles and lifestyles require the ability to get work done outside of the office – so having the ability to do work remotely is a huge advantage and productivity enhancer. At the same time, many argue that remote workers lose out on the advantages of being on-site – collaboration, innovation, communication, etc.

So, as employers, the challenge becomes creating a “work” (not office) environment that enables effective and productive work from anywhere – inside the office and out. Check out this video that looks at creating the workplace of the future:

Design Your Workplace Around Your Users

Start by understanding how your users function best – personally and in the role they are filling for you. If you have a mobile sales team – ensure they have the tools they need on the road. If you have an open office environment, but your employees sometimes require a space or the ability to go somewhere with less interruptions – enable them to do so.

The office you design will not be a one-size-fits-all solution. The variety in jobs and employee work styles make it impossible to design a space that works for everyone – but the cloud enables you to facilitate productivity in the spaces that work for them.

#1: Enhance Collaboration

The cloud can keep your employees connected and productive, regardless of where they are working. The ability to communicate and share via the cloud can enhance the quality of work produced and decrease the amount of time it takes to complete projects. The cloud offers these collaboration benefits:

  • Enhanced control over projects
  • Ability to work on these projects from anywhere
  • Coordinate and synchronize all work being completed
  • Real time updates, which leads to enhanced productivity and improved timelines
  • Better brainstorming and facilitated communication

#2: Allow for Flexibility

The cloud allows for flexibility in a number of ways:

  • Technology
  • In-office workspace
  • Off-site work location
  • Work hours

Technology changes – in hardware and software – happen frequently. A cloud computing environment provides a better alternative for managing and applying these updates and adjusting to changes, throughout your organization.

The cloud also provides the ability to work from anywhere, from any device, at any hour during the day. Employees today expect to always be connected – and the cloud makes that possible. So, whether your training team is out on location or your working parents need to stay home with sick kids, the cloud enables them to be productive in their downtime.

#3: Increase Productivity

Employees are more productive when they are comfortable. So in addition to creating a comfortable office environment, you can also enable them to work from the places they are most comfortable – via cloud computing.

The cloud provides remote, secure access to the documents and applications they require to be productive – from anywhere. Whether they need a quiet place to concentrate or a coffee shop filled with the white noise of espresso machines and casual conversation, the cloud can provide.
